The sociopolitical landscape can be changed. It’s of utmost importance that it is changed. If not what is the direction and nature of the progress being made? Thus we must put ethics and values forward. Think community wealth-building x governance of technologies x open science.

We can change the landscape through entrepreneurship via alternative ownership enterprise (AOEs). We drafted an entreaty, Solidarity Bioeconomy, regarding this topic and synthetic biology as a result of the Spirit of Asilomar Summit: https://repository.rice.edu/items/c9a55d0b-c20a-49a1-9f69-ac0eb78059da

There is much work on this current work on the topic with a book being published here: https://elysianpress.notion.site/We-Should-Own-The-Economy-1e03f5cbb7ca475ba92b2df62af7de99

You can ground it historically with sources such as Collective Courage: https://www.psupress.org/books/titles/978-0-271-09750-3.html?srsltid=AfmBOor34qB4XfDrng4gxXec1JujBZnWCtNVuNdDl4T_o-r24xjwz7-Q or Making of Mondragon: https://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9780875461823/making-mondragn/

I believe that everything being done by and at Astera could be significantly enhanced by implementing AOEs into how you think about entrepreneurship.

To return a question: “What kinds of innovations will be culturally rejected or refused by [funders,] regulators or other institutions?”

I think I submitted a profile on your site but allow me to introduce myself here. I'm an astronomy phd (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=U3FQ2H4AAAAJ) with experience in early-stage startups and in larger enterprises and I'm building software tools that aim to empower users to benefit from the automation capabilities of modern computers and the advanced powers of AI without needing to give away one's data (https://github.com/npc-worldwide/npcpy) . I'm making new interfaces for computers and phones to help us regain our attention, reduce clutter, and stay focused ( bloomos.ai, https://www.npcworldwi.de). I'm also working on research in NLP and AI and have already had a paper accepted on the limitations of LLMs using arguments based on Kolmogorov complexity and the degenerate properties of natural language (https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.10077). I'm actively working on several other paper submissions based on the procedures that I've built in npcpy to tackle topics like automated novel discovery and on using multi agent systems for data analysis and discovery.

Hopefully we can work to make things better together.
